?India exports computer software to 90 countries,? says a radio jingle by the federal Indian government as part of its campaign named ?Bharat Nirman? or ?India reconstruction?. India registered 138 million Internet users in 2012, which is estimated to touch 348 million by 2017 by Cisco?s Visuals Network Index.

The forecast is, internet traffic in India will reach 2.5 Exabyte per month by 2017, up from 393 petabytes per month n 2012 One Exabyte equals 1 million terabytes, one terabyte is 1000 gigabytes.

Despite these growth projections, India is among the slowest in terms of average internet speed in the world at 114th position with 1.3 Mbps, lowest even amongst Asian countries. South Korea has the fastest internet speed ? 14.2 Mbps, followed by Japan and Hong Kong. Countries like Lithuania and Romania are among the top 10 nations, in terms of highest internet speed in the world. Ironically, India is amongst the 10 countries from where highest ?attack traffic? or hacking originates with 2.6%. China with 34% tops the list, followed by Indonesia 21% and United States 8.3%.
